Kinkaku-ji Temple(Rokuon-ji Temple)

Everybody's called Kinrakuji .But Official name is Rokuonji.
Because it is famous for the Bilding with gold leaf
 
The temple was registered to the list of UNESCO World Geritage sites in 1994.
 
Originaly,Saionji was built in the place where Kinrakuji was builts during the Kamakura period.
 
In1397 Yoshimitsu Ashikaga(Third Shogun of Kamakura period)
Shogunate, took over Kitayama-den(Villa).
 
After the death of Yoshimitsu Ashikaga and his wife,Kitayama-den
became a Zen temple according to the will of Yoshimitsu Ashikaga .
 
Rokuon is posthumous Buddhist name.
 
 Leaf was pasted in the gold leaf
Replacement work at Kinrakuji Temple in 1986
It is said that about 20Kg of gold used and total constraction cost was 740 million Yen

A golden phoenix is installed on the roof of Kinkqakuji Temple.
The phoenix is a legendary bird in Chinese mythology and is considered a symbol of power and eternal life
 
Kinkakuji was designated as a national treasure but it was destroyed by arson in 1950
